This is a quirky quote from a great short story I read recently; The Ray-gun: A Love Story by James Alan Gardner. It is a sly and funny tale in which the humans are completely unaware that their romance (and their lives) may be being organized by an object they found in the woods. It gave me some insight into that old saying. “The universe is stranger than we understand. Perhaps stranger than we can understand.”
You can find it in The Year’s Best Science Fiction: 26th Annual Collection, ed. by Gardner Dozois, published in 2009.
